Emergo has joined forces with Annemarieke Mooijman Consulting to develop Zambia’s first ever National Hand Hygiene Road Map for UNICEF.  Behavioural change methodology and measurement are pivotal  in changing hand hygiene behaviours. Covid-19 pandemic showed the importance of hand sanitation practices and the right nudging campaigns to instill the habits. However, more structure is needed to achieve sustained behaviour change. Interventions start on a policy level, bringing together decision-makers, utilities and beneficiary communities and culminating in effective social and behavioural change communication. This entailed field work with communities, facilitating workshops, conducting key stakeholder interviews and drafting the final document for adoption. Engaging  various key actors for a capacity gap assessment, including  Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies such as the MWDS, Ministry of Health (MoH), Ministry of Education (MoE), Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development, and Ministry of Medium and Small Enterprise Development, key donors, private sector, Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) and Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs), at national, provincial and district levels. Previous work looking into WASH SDG Programme in Zambia, has given us a deeper insight into the Zambian WASH sector.
